RENSSELAER Patricia E. Hackel, age 71, Rensselaer, N.Y., died on Friday, January 22, 2010 at her residence embraced by her loving family. Born and raised in Rochester, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Francis T. Wido and Constance Fernandez Wido and the loving wife of the late Donald B. Hackel. She was a graduate of a home nursing school in Schenectady, N.Y. and was the co-owner of Don's Diner, Rensselaer, N.Y. She was a communicant of the Parish of St. John the Evangelist and St. Joseph. She loved sharing time with family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles, the Daily Jumble, and playing Scrabble. Most importantly, she lived her God given talent of care giving for numerous people throughout her life in her words, "Going to where the need was the greatest." Survivors include her siblings, Annemarie Hagler (Andy) of Rochester; Jeanne Nalwaleski of Rochester; David Wido (Ingrid) of Rochester; James Wido (Mary) of Ill.; Noel T. Wido (Ann) of Canandaigua; and Celeste Short (Tim) of Rochester; her devoted children, Daniel Hackel (Lisa), Robert Hackel (Michele), Joy Adler and Janice Presti; as well as her inherited children, Cathy (Sharp) Barber (John), Gladys (Sharp) Waite, Donald Hackel (Kris) and Deborah (Hackel) Gavigan (Jim); adoring grandmother of Glendon (Christine), Patricia (Brent), Mary (Stu), Jacob and Nathaniel Hackel, Michael Falkouski III, Alena Adler, and Cheyenne Presti; her adopted grandchildren, Maria, Katie, Zachary, Anna, Caleb, Joshua and Grace Hackel, Robert Stocklas (Jen) and Rachael (Stocklas) Lagenbach (Chris), Michael A. and Alyssa Presti and Caitlyn Bendick; her adopted great-grandchildren, Michelle, Ashley, Shona, and Shea Stocklas, Alicia and Brianna Lagenbach and Jaedyn Parker Presti Niemiec. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her loving friends, Robert L. Stocklas and Leah (Henry) Bendick. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, Rensselaer on Tuesday, January 26, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and then 10:30 a.m. at the parish of St. John The Evangelist and St. Joseph, Herrick Street, Rensselaer on Wednesday, January 27 where a Mass of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated.
