COHOES -- Alice H. Serfilippi, RN, 78, lifelong resident of Cohoes, passed away after a long illness, surrounded by her loving family on October 30, 2002. She was the daughter of the late William D. and A. Irene Hayden and wife of 51 years to the late Samuel P. Serfilippi Jr. She was a graduate of Cohoes High School and Hudson Valley Community College School of Nursing. She retired from Cohoes Hospital, was an instructor at Mary McClellan School of Nursing and office nurse to the late Dr. Francis Noonan. In her retirement, she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and caring for her grandchildren. She is survived by seven children, Christine (William) Marcil of Cohoes, Tari Serfilippi of Watervliet, Aprille Cotrona (Britt Overrocker) of Latham, William (Robbie) Serfilippi of Cohoes, Santino (Beth) Serfilippi of Niskayuna, Gerard (Mary Margaret) Serfilippi of Jacksonville, Fla. and Dr. Geoffrey (Mary Jane) Serfilippi of Delmar. She was predeceased by her daughter, Helene Magin, whose husband, Dennis, survives. Also survived by two sisters, Helen Magnano of Latham and Dorothy A. White of Green Island. Predeceased by her sister, Rev. Elizabeth (Betty) Fera, whose husband, Frank, survives. Loving grandmother to Michael, Jonathan and Matthew Magin, Jeanine Hamlin and Rebecca Sawyer, Tracey Russ and Brandie Beattie, Marianne Gendron, Kristin and Joshua Cotrona, Lea Montes, Katie and Billie Ann Serfilippi, Anthony Serfilippi, Samantha and Mary Catherine Serfilippi and Jessica and Abigail Serfilippi. Also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be sadly missed by her friends, Marge Forchilli and Bernice Niles. Special thanks to Dr. Geoffrey Serfilippi and Marianne Gendron for their loving care and devotion to Alice in her time of need. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:00 a.m. from the Marra Funeral Home, corner of Remsen and Columbia streets, Cohoes and at 9:30 from St. Bernard's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterford. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 4-8 p.m. Those who wish may make donations in Alice's memory to the American Heart Association.
